NNPP to National Assembly: Reject the 'Coup' by the President Against Fubara
The national leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has described the six-month suspension imposed by President Bola Tinubu on Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State as a shocking political decision and a threat to democracy.
While condemning President Tinubu's action, the NNPP stated that after analyzing the political situation in Rivers State, it found that the crisis did not warrant the declaration of a State of Emergency. The party further argued that unless there was a hidden agenda, a meaningful political solution would have been more appropriate rather than imposing an emergency rule.
The party urged President Tinubu to immediately withdraw the decision and called on the National Assembly to reject what it termed a "presidential coup" against a legitimately elected government in Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP asserted that the president’s decision not only violates the constitution but also sets a dangerous precedent in Nigerian politics.
