Three cars, all black C-Class 217, sparkling clean, were driving along the Airport Road after picking up the princess of their family.
Her full name is LAILAH ALI MODIBBO.
It has been ten years since she last visited Nigeria; she has been living in Starling City in the United States with her mum.
Her mum was not her biological mother but the younger sister of her late mother, who died when Lailah was still very young.
Her stay abroad began after her mother died when she was eight years old.
Her father, Justice Aliyu Modibbo, loves her deeply because she is the only child his late wife left him.
Likewise, her grandfather, Alhaji Muhammadu Modibbo, loves her more than the other grandchildren because of the love he had for her mother before she died.
Her father’s elder brothers, Alh. Nasir Modibbo and Alh. Abdulkarim Modibbo, together with their wives, also love her because of the enormous wealth her father has.

Alhaji Muhammadu Modibbo is their grandfather; they are only three brothers in the world:
— Alh. Nasir Modibbo (the eldest), and he has three children: JABEER, SIYAMA, and AYSHAT
— Alh. Abdulkarim has two children: ZUBAIR and HAYAT
— Justice Aliyu Modibbo is the youngest and has only one child: LAILAH.
The whole extended family lives in one compound because all their houses in Jere are inside one big gate.
At the large gate, the cars stopped.
The first car honked once, then twice, but no one opened the gate.
Since they picked her up from the airport, she had been on the phone with the mum she left in America. She ended the call while staring at the gate, surprised that even with the honking, the gatekeeper was acting like he didn’t know his job.
She hissed softly and frowned, irritated by what she called “useless and lazy people.”
Her father, sitting beside her and on a call, ended his call when he noticed her frown. He knew his daughter very well, as he visited them in America every three months.
He cleared his throat and said,
“Nuhu, go and check if YASEER the gatekeeper is not around, because I’m sure she didn’t leave her duty post without a rea—”
Before he finished, the gate swung open.
Confidently, Lailah lifted her head to look at the gatekeeper—but what she saw annoyed her even more.
The boy was extremely handsome—his skin so smooth and glowing that it irritated her further.
She hissed again, looked away, and they drove into the parking area.
